Scullery experiments : Mixed omelette

Omelette - the very first dish that I learnt to cook, why?! Of course, I love omelette....

Let's start with the quick recipe, which I am sure is a cake's walk.

Ingredients needed:
  • Eggs - 2
  • Tomato finely chopped sans the the pulp
  • Bell peppers finely chopped - green,red
  • 1 finely chopped chili
  • 1 finely chopped onion -1
  • Italian seasoning
  • Chili flakes
  • Finely chopped coriander leaves
Place all the above ingredients in a bowl, egg of course broken down - add salt and pepper as per taste. Next you need to beat the eggs just for about 10-20 seconds - this is to impart fluffiness to the omelette.

If you don't have the Italian seasoning or the Chili flakes - save the ones which you get from your pizza delivery - they are real taste and aroma enhancers. :)

First and foremost step to prepare anything of course is to: heat the pan and add about 2 table spoons of oil into it.

And then bang , empty the entire egg batter into the pan. Sprinkle the chili flakes and the Italian seasoning evenly over the omelette.

After about 3-4 minutes you would notice the omelette is starting to get cook. Try to budge the sides to check if you can flip the omelette with ease - this indicates that the base has been cooked properly.

If you are not apt at flipping, and fear you might spill - just fold the omelette and then flip it. :)

And voila - tasty mix veggies omelette is ready!!

Serve with toasted bread.

Food anatomization : Pizza hut delivery, Magarpatta - Pune

Being home alone on an auspicious occasion, I thought I must treat my taste buds. :)

Hence the noble thought of ordering pizza.Since I wanted for single serving, ordered for the spice overloaded big pizza.:D :D

They delivered the pizza almost 30 minutes late, and apparently the 30 minutes or free offer is not valid during festivals.:P So I gave it to them thinking the rush during festivals must be heavy - so that must have been the reason to deliver the pizza late.
But now when I read the other reviews, others also have similar complaint of pizza being delivered late. I think it is genuine issue of this delivery shop.

And yeah pizza hut has also started charging extra for ketchup pouches. LOL!!

None the less, the pizza was delicious coupled with a glass a pepsi. PIZZA - always a treat to my taste buds. :)

Recently, they have started these single serving menu - light on pocket and easy to gorge without a need for a helping hand. :D

The loaded mini veg and non-veg are quite tasty - good enough for single serving.
The garlic bread was okayish - but doesn't taste that good without the dip.
And this time, the delivery was dot on time.

Food anatomization : Mandi, JP Naar - Bangalore

After much debate over having buffet lunch or not, we finally hit this place. :D

Mandi, situated right across the street - is on the second floor of the building beside KFC in JP Nagar.

The decor is good – but it added little to the feel of the place. They could have decorated quite well to be in sync with the name of the restaurant. They have worked more on the décor at the entrance.

They have a wide seating area, and it can house almost 20 or more tables.

The buffet dishes were served on vendor carts - mostly to be in sync with its name "Mandi".

The lighting is comfortable, and this was the first restaurant in Bangalore where they were playing only Bollywood songs - absolute music to the ears.

They serve a wide spread of dishes ranging from North Indian, South Indian, Chinese and Italian. But it is a purely vegetarian restaurant and they don't have ala~carte for lunch.

This was my first venture into an all vegetarian restaurant serving only buffet.

We started with a welcome drink - which was more like a jaljeera drink - it was refreshingly cool.

The VEG CORN SOUP was okayish.

The starters were served on the table - they had around 4-5 starter dishes. They served us with - ALOO TIKKI,DAHI ALOO,GOBHI MASALA and PUDINA PANEER
The taste of all of the dishes were about average. Though I really liked the dahi aloo,it was something new that I had off late – amazingly soft and tasty!

They had live chat counters – although I didn’t have the chats nor pani puri – but I didn’t hear any good comments about it  – they were either soggy or too sweet. No chatpata taste as expected. Also, yeah I completely forgot – they also have live pasta counters – I really relished the PASTA
The chef had the sauce ready and he sautéed the sauces and pasta, on the hot plate and served it – right in front of us. :)

Coming to main course - they served a variety of dishes like the DAL MAKHANI,DUM ALOO CHATPATA,PANEER BUTTER MASALA,KOFTA CURRY,ALOO MATAR SABJI,HAKKA NOODLES,VEG CHILLY IN GRAVY,SUBZ BIRYANI,RASAM,STEAMED RICE,CURD RICE.

The dishes didn’t have any WOW factor in them – but yet they tasted about good – and you could see there was not immense influx of masalas in the dishes. They had kept it subtle and simple.

For breads – we ordered for the KULCHA– they were perfect!

There were few salads as well - but I just loved the CORN SALAD. The dressing was about perfect.

For desserts - they had a GULAB JAMUNS,RASUGULLAS,MOONG DAL HALWA,PEDA,KHEER,FRUITS and STRAWBERRY ICE CREAM.

The GULAB JAMUNS - disappointing.
Loved the PEDA(mostly it was not from their kitchen).
KHEER- so so.
The MOONG DAL HALWA - surprisingly well cooked dish. I would say rich in flavors and savory.
The STRAWBERRY ICE CREAM – don’t know which brand they were serving – I just nibbled and it was an utter disaster again. :(
They had the live jalebi counter - and the JALEBIS were a treat. Absolutely mouthwatering!!

My expectation from a buffet, is the least they must serve the best  of desserts – it must be among the most satiating dishes.

The food was in all – average! For the price – number of dishes was a fair number but the taste of the food should be improved.

The service is too slow. And they take a lot of time for anything that you ask for.

It does stand crowded on a weekend, people were stepping in and out and there was no stopping, which gave me a hint - that this place is a common with lot of people.

Food anatomization : 1f1w, Magarpatta - Pune

My first Zomato order was an order from 1f1w.

The name is quite fancy - apparently means one food one world.!

Ordering for a single person becomes quite a task for me - finishing an entire dish by my own becomes cumbersome.
Hence I loved the fact that I could order for a mini biryani - which was just apt for my appetite and on my pocket too. :D
The biryani was served with a  good serving of raita(thankfully),salad, achaar and papad.
The taste I would say was quite the usual - not anything out of the box. The masalas in the rice and the chicken were cooked nicely - missed few flavors though.
They have container charges for take away - sad , but the food was packaged properly. :)

Anyway looking at their menu - it seems pretty friendly for the people who usually prefer having food outside on a daily basis - they have numerous-numerous combo options.
But on the price front - other dishes were little pricy - but also we must note DC always has a upsurge in prices compared to else where.

The food was delivered on time.

Food anatomization : Happy Crust, Magarpatta - Pune

Happy crust left me totally unhappy with my pasta ordered for take away. For our weekly Friday meet, we happen to order the Tangy tomato pasta and the creamy white baked pasta.

The pastas were served with two pieces of garlic bread which was the only relief to the taste buds.

They need to improvise a lot on the pastas. Most of the crowd just said one thing - we can prepare pastas better than the one we paid for.

Although on the quality front, they hadn't compromised with the quality of the pasta - there were olives, mushrooms, corn, bell peppers in plentiful.
But the taste was not appealing at all.
They have introduced a new ice-cream corner - where they have introduced the special ROLLED ICE-CREAMS.
The process is a delight to the eyes - how thickened milk is poured over a iced platter sort of container and the ice cream spatulas do their bit to reduce the milk which is then rolled to ice creams.Tried their ALPHONSO MANGO ROLLED ICE CREAM - savory and decadent. Four rolls of ice-cream and you are satisfied. It is pricy of course but worth giving a shot. :)

Food anatomization : Mc Donald's, Jayanagar - Bangalore

I find writing reviews for such type of chains kind of difficult. :D

So this McD joint is located right in the Central Mall - right at the entrance. Apart from the food court in the mall, this place is another one which offers quick bites.
It is hugely crowded - mostly college crowd and dead tired shopaholics. On the weekends finding a place to sit here is still impossible. On my recent trip to Bangalore - I noticed that they have gotten rid of their take away counter and extended the place to sit.

They have in a very subtle way divided the place into three parts. As you enter, the counter is exclusive for the Desserts & Beverages like the Mc Flurry, shakes, cold coffee, softy cones etc.
Next is the Mc cafe for tea, coffee, cookies, cakes etc.
And finally the food counters for the french fries, burgers, wraps etc.

Now I find the place little more organised - allowing more room for the customers.

The food items that they serve here is as per the standards set by Mcd. Most of the times we had the various vegetarian and non vegetarian burgers which were fresh - tasty!
The french fries one of my favorites here. The piri -piri is a spicy addition.
The wraps a decent option in the low spend criteria.
The McFlurry is an absolute delight - I am glad they have come up with various sizes (small/medium). This enables me not to be in a state of high on sweets.
The soft serve in cone takes me back to my childhood days - very difficult to find good joints serving softies. Glad that McD does it. :)

The service is apt. They work their hands at such great speeds to fulfill each order. Commendable!

The staff is courteous - although during my one visit, I wasn't given the bill for my purchase of few dessert items. I was surprised that I had to ask a repeated times to catch my hands on the bill. Totally unprofessional!
Other this experience, rest of my experiences have been by far good.

I drawback of the place is cash only specially for people relying on plastic cash. :D
