Food anatomization: Pizza hut , JP Nagar - Banagalore

This pizza hut joint is right across the street - from where I stay. It has been here from more than 8-9 years now I believe.

We usually go for pickup and quite rarely dine or have the pizzas home delivered from here. Most of the times, we had to wait for longer duration for the food, despite there being no rush - hence we always follow the pickup route.

The restaurant is not much spread over - houses about 10 odd tables.

The staff here is comparatively less for service. The staff is courteous - but does not provide you value options which could go light on your pocket too.

Few incidents happened where timely delivery of the pizza wasn't given despite the distance being just 2 mins away(took 2 hours for the delivery). And if you place the order at the store, and ask them for the duration for delivery - they say delivery would take more than 30-40 minutes.

The VEGGIE MAGIC SOLO options are good(corn, tomato, capsicum, onion) -  tasty and filling and perfectly serves 1.
The CHEESE GARLIC BREAD is another favorite.
The CHOCO MOUSSE is delicious.
And the CHOCO TRUFFLE is extra chocolaty and yummy!

Surprisingly they have started charging for the tomato ketchups - lol?!

They have maintained the standards of Pizza hut to quite some extent!

Only question - why do they charge service tax for home delivery?

Food anatomization: Anand sweets and savouries, Jayanagar - Bangalore

Anand is a purely veg joint - serves north Indian snacks and a variety of sweets.

Not an easy place to miss, finds itself at a stones throw from the famous Nandini hotel.

The place is quite spacious having a separate section for having snacks with heightened tables. The other section is for purchasing sweets and other dry snacks.

It facilitates itself with a self service  system and the place is very hygienic.

The raj kachori ,kachori/samosa chat and Chole bature  is my favorite here - tangy, spicy and chat pata.
The moti chor ladoo is made perfectly, which satiates your taste buds.
They serve nice dhoklas with chutney.
The samosas are damn tasty.
Also a nice place to have Pav Bhaji - tastes way better than the other joints.

The packaging of the sweets is nice.

In all a good place to have tasty north Indian snacks.

Food Review : Yummy Tummy, Magarpatta City - Pune

Yummy tummy - literally the next door restaurant. It is just aside our tower. :D

It is a go to place whenever the menu in our cafeteria is not appealing. :P

Recently, they have hiked up the prices of the items in their menu and are also working on renovating the place. The price hike is not really justified given their food quality in terms of taste. They have introduced couple of new dishes in their menu and some happy combos.

It is hygienic place, and you got to pay for your food prior. They have a self-service system. It has a huge and spacious seating area - one in the outside under the starry night and the other one inside of course. It is more like a food court.

They have separate counters for each cuisine type - south Indian,North Indian,Maharashtra-ian,Chinese,sandwiches,cakes etc. They have a waiting time of about 10 minutes minimum for every dish that you order.

During lunch hours it is heavily crowded with office goers.

Sadly have tried only a couple of dishes here in all these years being in Magarpatta.
The veg and non veg kolhapuri thalis are a treat. I have always loved YT for these thalis.
The north Indian thali also has a variety of dishes in its catch. The chole bhature is tasty yet quite oily.
The veg and non veg schezwan noodles/rice have always tasted good.
The pav bhaji quite an average dish.
The south Indian thali is also good to the taste buds. Ekdum sada. Since it is a south indian thali – they do not serve rotis.
The dosas along with the sambhar and chutneys are good.
The lassi or the sweet lime soda is a must drink whenever I visit this place.
They have healthy rolls too - made in rumalis stuffed with chicken and other garnishings – the chicken hariyali and chicken tikka with mint mayo.

In all you average food with variety in their menu. Just the price is over hyped!

Food anatomization : K C Das, JP Nagar - Bangalore

KC Das one of the most renowned joints for authentic Bengali sweets.

On the eve of Diwali, we had sweets from KC Das. And they were really awesome. It surely did live up to its reputation.

Bengali rosgullas were a hit among us. They were so soft and oozing out rassa. They were the best among the lot that we got, totally savored it! It is priced little high compared to size it offers.
Then there was another box of assorted sweets consisting of wide variety ranging from Kaju Katli,Kaju roll,Mysore Pak,Barfi,Turkish delight, anjir twirl, kesar peda. Fresh and tasty!

All the sweets were delicious and had stunning flavors.Although a little pricy but it was worth the money. :)

They offer a wide variety of sweets.
For all the sweet fanatics conscious of weight, surprisingly their menu had something called diet sweets category, what on earth can be better than this! :P

Apart from sweets, they also sell quick snacks items like luchi, samosa, nimki, kachori, chop etc.

Totally enjoyed the Diwali eve with the sweets from KC Das with a touch of Bengali-ness! Misti....

Food anatomization: Hoppipola All Day Bar & Bonhomie. Amanora Mall - Pune

After hearing a lot of buzz about this new place in Amanora - it was about time to pay a visit to this place.

So we were here for about 1 hour on a Sunday evening.  Surprisingly, it wasn't as crowded as I had expected it to be.

The ambiance is quite interesting - actually there is a variety to it.
The decor needs a special mention.
There is an outdoor seating where we chose to sit. It is a small area with about 10 tables. Lot of plants are placed here, makes it more eco-friendly. Very pretty ,small tree houses were hanging from the branches. The lighting was on a brighter side. The plants do cause little interference - maybe there is a need to trim them!!

The inside seating is comparatively more spacious. The decor of the place is done beautifully. They have few gliders hung up on the wall and plenty of other props. One amazing in a all day bar is the circular book shelf - a first for me to see anywhere!!Books - really?!
The place has more of a Mediterranean decor. Each wall has something to tell. They even have a open bar. And I must not forget to mention the plethora of wall clocks - it was quite alluring!!
Impressive ambiance and good effort taken by the makers. There are some fun games one can indulge in - which we confidently chose to ignore. :D

Their menu offered a variety of Italian dishes. We ordered for couple of the starters here.
The cheesienos - a small version of cheese chilly toast - embedded with olives and jalepenos. Tasted about good!
Next we had the Jah Man's chicken - flat pieces of chicken rolled in bread crumbs and fried. It was served with a dip- and each piece had a sort of green chutney spread over it. Reminded me of wadi!
Then the last for the evening was the fishful thinking - based on reviews from my friends it was good.

Just that for every dish - the servings were comparatively less!

The music being played is interesting.

The staff is cordial and prompt.

Scullery experiments : Eggless Chocolate Cake

So an attempt at egg less cake for the occasion of my DAD's birthday - I never believed home made  cake without eggs could even taste good. But to my surprise - it was just flawless!

Here is the recipe for the egg-less cake which I tried my hands at.

You would need the following ingredients:
  • 3/4 cup maida
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup butter/oil/ghee
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4  teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 cup sugar(powdered) - you can make this 3/4 cup if you prefer little less sweet
  • 1 cup curd
Get the above ingredients ready. Along side mix the curd and the sugar.

Set the microwave oven to preheat mode. By the time you will be done with mixing the ingredients the microwave will be set for baking.
  • Now take a baking bowl and add oil, baking powder, baking soda and a pinch of salt, next add the essence and maida in the above given measurements.
  • Slowly add the curd and sugar mixture.
  • Mix the batter well in one direction - and see that you get the proper folds while whipping. You can add little chocolate powder also to make it more chocolaty. :D :D
  • Now dress the baking bowl with oil or butter with dab it with maida. This will prevent the cake from sticking to the base, while you are trying to get the cake out of the bowl.
  • Transfer the mixture into your required size baking bowl, atop you can add dry fruits like - almonds, raisins, walnuts and cashew nuts.
Yummy!! I am already drooling thinking about it. :P :P

By now the microwave oven must be preheated with the required temperature. The next step of course would be putting the baking container in the microwave.
You would need to set it to convection mode for 20 minutes at 220 degrees. You might need to set it for another 10-20 depending on your microwave settings. My microwave oven needs 40 minutes of the convection time.

Do not rest in peace while this is being done. Keep checking at regular intervals if it is getting done appropriately or not.
Use a toothpick rather than a knife to check if all the sides and center of the cake is getting baked aptly or not. You might end up with few tiny-miny holes but never mind.
By 15 minutes, you would see that the cake is rising.
A tip : never fill the mixture in the baking container till the brim. Always leave room for it to rise.

Use your judgement to find the perfect moment to decide when it is done.

And finally VOILA - you have the cake ready!

Jump on.....
In the microwave
Once out of the microwave
All decorated!
Enjoy!
Another version which I made was adorned with red cherries and grated Hershey's chocolate.
